The Brong Ahafo Regional First Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has described the opposition NDC as a very 'wicked' party which does not have the moral right to label anyone as bloody.
“We have embarrassed ourselves as a country. The National Security should be ashamed for what they did. Why should they fire warning shot in just a by-election?” Social Commentator, Sydney Casely believes the way and manner security agencies handled the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election dented the image of the country.
The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers wants the government to thoroughly investigate circumstances surrounding the deployment of masked and heavily armed men to various polling stations during the Ayawaso by-elections on Thursday. CODEO believes the presence of the men intimidated many voters and contributed to the very low turnout at the polls. A security expert at the University of Cape Coast, Dr Kingsley Adjei is predicting a low voter turnout in 2020 General elections.
Dr Adjei who was speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Friday says Ghana is treading on slippery ground. “I am saying that if after the 2020 election Mahama is able to poll 40 percent of the total votes cast, I will step down from my position as chairman of the NPP in the Ashanti Region; I will not contest again.” The delegates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who will be electing a Flagbearer on February 23, 2019 to lead them in the 2020 general elections have been implored by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, to settle on former President John Dramani Mahama.
Mrs. Mensa “...the commission, therefore, condemns in no uncertain terms, attempts by sections of the society to link it with the alleged acts of violence. As a commission, our focus and our mandate is to conduct credible, transparent, fair elections that will uphold the will of the people as witnessed in all 137 polling stations at the constituency.” Allegations by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) that seek to link the Electoral Commission (EC) to the unpleasant events that unfolded during the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency have been vehemently rejected by the commission
"We will not accept anything short of identifying and punishing the persons who are now behaving in a manner as if Ghana is governed by the rule and not the rule of law. The Minority in Parliament has condemned the violent attacks in the house of the NDC parliamentary candidate in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and urged the security agencies, particularly the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante Appietu, to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
