The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured it will work assiduously to draft regulations to be eventually passed into a constitutional instrument (CI) by Parliament this year for the smooth implementation of the People’s Amendment Act (ROPAA) 2006, Act 699 ahead of the 2020 general election.

The chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has stated that allowing development partners to partly fund the country’s election is wrong.
According to her, the tendency of depending on donors to help fund the cost of elections in Ghana usually compromises the independence of the elections. “We’ll also discuss the issue of security around our electoral processes, we will reflect on how to tighten security right from our registration processes to election day activities through to the declaration of results” The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has expressed the need for electoral management bodies (EMBs) to put in place security measures that will ensure elections are free and fair.
Madam Jean Adukwei Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has announced that journalists will no longer be required to pay for election accreditation to report on election 2020 and beyond.
